The Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd’s 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Power Project and Jaypee Karcham Hydro Corp. Ltd’s 1,000 MW Karcham Wangtoo Hydroelectric Project in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur district remained closed for the third day on Wednesday, project officials said. The shutdown has hit power supply to states like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The silt content in the Satluj river, on which both the projects are located, remained much higher than the permissible limit due to continuous rainfall, V.K. Verma, SJVNL deputy general manager, told IANS. Likewise, NHPC’s 300 MW Chamera stage II located on the Ravi river in Chamba district remained closed. It was shut on Tuesday.
