Psyllium

Key Attributes.

Psyllium Psyllium (Plantago ovata Forsk) is a member of the Plantaginaceae family. The dietary fiber that can be purified from the seed husk is mostly water soluble. More than 50% of this dietary fiber is hemicellulose, and over 30% is non-digestible water-soluble polysaccharides (mucilage), mainly xylose, arabinose, and galacturonic acid. These two types of fiber have water retention and expansion properties, and are useful for preventing constipation.
